A great deal can be said about the challenges of our job. Theres all the functional aspects (stress, deadlines, which dude is gonna fuck up on site today, clients, etc.) but more importantly the emotional aspect aswell.
I riddle you this. Can love affect the design of a building? Let me be more precise. Can the ABSENCE of love in a persons life affect the way he or she creates and designs the things around him (or her) ?
I fundamentally believe that a person with love in their life, a partner, animals, a family will conceive a completely different form of architecture from say someone who has none or very little in their life. A person who dedicates their life to the job and does not have anything to come back home too, cannot, in my humble oppinion carve the world that future generations will live in. But then again, my reasoning is a purely hypothetical one and as such cannot be verified. That being said… i do believe that statement holds merit in all forms of work and design.
So i am reminded in complicated times of a famous quote;
” The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves. ”
Victor Hugo
